How to Rotate Image Online

Rotating an image with this tool is fast and straightforward. Upload your image by dragging it to the upload zone, clicking to browse your device files, or pasting with Ctrl+V. Supported formats include JPG, PNG, and WEBP up to 20MB. All processing happens in your browser — no file is uploaded to any server.

After uploading, three rotate buttons appear: 90° Left rotates anticlockwise, 90° Right rotates clockwise, and 180° flips the image upside-down. Each click applies an additional rotation to the current state, so clicking 90° Right three times achieves the same result as 90° Left. The transform info bar below the buttons shows the current rotation angle and flip state at all times.

Two flip buttons are also available: Flip Horizontal mirrors the image left to right, and Flip Vertical mirrors it top to bottom. You can combine rotation and flip. For example, rotate 90° Right then Flip Horizontal to produce a specific orientation. Choose JPG or PNG format before downloading. Click Download Rotated Image to save the result.

When to Rotate or Flip Image

Scanned certificates, mark sheets, and ID documents often come out sideways when placed on a flatbed scanner at the wrong angle. A landscape document placed vertically produces an image that needs 90° rotation. Use the rotate function to correct the orientation before uploading to an application portal or printing.

Smartphone photos taken with the device held sideways sometimes appear rotated when viewed on a computer, because the phone embeds EXIF rotation data that some applications ignore. Rotating the image with this tool bakes the correct orientation into the actual pixel data rather than relying on EXIF metadata, ensuring it displays correctly everywhere.

Mirror images are sometimes needed when a logo, text overlay, or watermark appears backwards. Flip Horizontal creates a mirror image of the original. Selfie cameras on smartphones often produce mirrored images for some applications, which can be corrected with a horizontal flip. Vertical flip is useful when images are scanned with the document placed upside-down on the scanner bed.

Rotate vs Flip — What's the Difference

Rotation turns the image around a central point by a specified angle. A 90° clockwise rotation turns a portrait image into landscape orientation, swapping the width and height. A 180° rotation produces an upside-down version of the image without changing the width-to-height ratio.

Flipping mirrors the image along an axis rather than rotating it. Horizontal flip reflects the image left to right — the left side becomes the right side. Vertical flip reflects top to bottom — the top becomes the bottom. The key practical difference: rotating 90° changes the canvas dimensions, while flipping does not change dimensions.

Rotating Exam Documents

When submitting scanned certificates, mark sheets, or qualification documents to exam portals, the document must appear in the correct upright orientation. Portals sometimes reject applications where documents appear sideways or upside-down during online verification.

For scanned documents that appear rotated 90° clockwise, use the 90° Left button to correct orientation. For documents scanned upside-down, use the 180° button. After rotating, check the preview to confirm the text reads normally and the document edges are straight before downloading. Once orientation is correct, use our Compress tool to reduce the file size to within the portal's allowed limit.

Horizontal = mirror left-right (selfie fix). Vertical = flip upside-down (top becomes bottom).

Currently supports 90°, 180°, 270° only. Custom angle rotation is not available in this tool.

Yes for 90° and 270°. Width and height swap. A 200×230 image becomes 230×200 after 90° rotation.

Yes. Download the rotated version. The original file on your device is unchanged.

Yes. Rotation is pixel-perfect at 90°/180°/270°. Text and fine details remain sharp after rotation.

Click the 180° rotation button. The image flips to the correct orientation instantly.

Selfies are usually already in the correct orientation. Use Flip Horizontal only if text or features appear mirrored.

Download the file. Our tool bakes rotation into pixels, not EXIF metadata, ensuring consistent display everywhere.
